Understanding the Power of Biblical Decrees and Declarations:

Speaking God’s Word Can Bring Breakthroughs in Your Life

In life, we encounter various challenges that can sometimes feel overwhelming. We may struggle with our finances, relationships, health, or even our faith. However, as believers, we are not helpless in these situations. In fact, we have a powerful tool at our disposal – the power of decrees and declarations. Biblical decrees and declarations refer to speaking God’s word over our circumstances to release His promises into our lives. In this blog post, we will explore the power of decrees and declarations and how you can use them to bring breakthroughs in various areas of your life.

In biblical teachings, the powerful concept of decrees and declarations has been practiced for centuries.  The Bible is filled with instances where God’s people use their words to proclaim His promises, purposes, and blessings into existence. Understanding the significance and power of biblical decrees and declarations can transform your prayer life and release breakthroughs in various areas of your life.

What is a Decree or Declaration?

A decree is a formal and authoritative order made by a higher authority. In the context of biblical teachings, it refers to the act of using the Word of God to declare His promises and will over your life, circumstances, or situation. A declaration, on the other hand, is a strong, confident, and assertive expression of truth based on God’s Word. It’s making a public proclamation of what you believe and expect to come to pass.

Job 22: 28 says, “You will also declare a thingAnd it will be established for you; So light will shine on your ways.”

The Power of Decrees and Declarations

From the beginning, we see the power of decrees and declarations in action. In the book of Genesis, God spoke creation into existence using His words. He said, “Let there be light,” and there was light (Genesis 1:3). Similarly, we see throughout the Bible prophets and Jesus releasing miracles through their declarations. For example, when Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, He declared, “Lazarus, come forth!” (John 11:43). Even the apostle Paul speaks to the power of decrees and declarations when he writes, “We walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7).

Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” This verse emphasizes the weight and significance of our words. The New Testament also emphasizes the power of declarations, as Jesus said in Mark 11:23, “Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him.”

The Process of  Decrees and Declarations

  • Seek God’s Word: Before making a decree or declaration, seeking and studying God’s Word is crucial. Understand His promises and principles concerning your situation. This ensures that your decree aligns with His will.
  • Meditate on His Word: Take time to meditate and internalize the Scriptures relevant to your situation. Allow God’s truth to penetrate your heart and renew your mind.
  • Speak with Authority: When making a decree or declaration, speak with the confidence and authority of one who knows the power and truth of God’s Word. Declare the promises of God and His will for your situation.
  • Believe and Have Faith: Your words must be accompanied by unwavering faith and belief. Trust that God’s Word is true and that He will fulfill His promises.
  • Persist in Prayer: Continue to affirm your decrees and declarations in prayer. Remain steadfast, even if you don’t see immediate results. Keep speaking God’s truth over your circumstances until breakthrough comes.

The power of decrees and declarations cannot be understated. By speaking God’s word over our lives, we activate His promises and invite the Holy Spirit to work within us.

The spoken word has a tremendous impact on our minds, spirits, and faith. When we declare God’s promises over our lives, we activate our faith and align ourselves with His will. Furthermore, our minds begin to transform as we focus on God’s truth instead of our circumstances. In doing so, we invite the Holy Spirit to work within us, strengthening us and empowering us to overcome challenges.

Decrees and declarations are not just empty words. When spoken with intention and faith, they have the power to transform every area of our lives. They aid us in spiritual warfare, activating God’s promises, strengthening our faith, and bringing forth breakthroughs in various life areas. Through decrees and declarations, we invite the supernatural power of God to work within us, renewing our minds and restoring all that the enemy has stolen.
