Are you feeling weak? Like you have no strength left for the battle?
You can find strength in the Lord.
Most Christians are familiar with the armor of God and its importance to us in the spiritual battle. But the armor of God is preceded by instructions from Ephesians 6:10 which tells us, Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. It’s encouraging to know we don’t have to rely upon our own strength. We can rely on God’s strength, guidance, and power.
Our strength fails. But, God’s never does. Paul recounts the Lord’s response to his cry for help in Corinthians 12:9, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.”
Paul takes encouragement from that promise and goes on to say, “So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
We must remind ourselves of the Lord’s power and strength and rely on Him to provide us with the guidance, wisdom and courage we need to face any challenge or difficulty we encounter.
Here are three ways we can stay strong in the Lord.
1. By reading and following His word daily.
Doing this will ensure that we remain strong and resilient through any situation. The word of God is a reminder to us of the many different ways that He is our strength.
His very name is Strength and we can call on His name when we are feeling weak, afraid or overwhelmed and we know that,
The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe. (Proverbs 18:10 NLT)
- He empowers us.
He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. (Isaiah 40:29)
- He equips us and gives us strength for the battle.
You have armed me with strength for the battle; you have subdued my enemies under my feet. (2 Samuel 22:40)
- He upholds us.
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. (Isaiah 41:10 NLT)
When you are feeling weak, stand upon the Word of God, remind yourself of where your strength comes from. Trust Him to strengthen you.
2. By Praying
Pray often – prayer is essential to staying strong in the Lord’s power. Asking God for guidance, strength, courage and protection will help us stay focused on Him and His plan for our lives.
Psalm 23:3 says, He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.
When I am weak and struggling I can pray to Him knowing that, The Lord gives his people strength. The Lord blesses them with peace. (Psalm 29:11)
3.By turning to Him in thanksgiving and worship.
This is an act of faith. It is a testimony of your confidence in God’s ability to strengthen you.
The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving. (Psalm 28:7)
O my Strength, to you I sing praises, for you, O God, are my refuge, the God who shows me unfailing love. (Psalm 59:11)
As we worship Him, not only does it encourage our hearts to remember His unfailing love, it feels our hearts with Joy. And Nehemiah 8:10 says, “The joy of the Lord is your strength!”
When you are feeling weak and vulnerable, remember that God is your source of strength. He will never fail you or leave you alone. Call upon Him and rely on His strength to get you through any difficulty. He will provide the strength you need to persevere in times of trouble.
“See, God has come to save me. I will trust in him and not be afraid. The Lord God is my strength and my song; he has given me victory.” Isaiah 12:2
