Megan McCormick’s introduction to Lee Grainger was from the sidewalk looking up. Extremely accident-prone, she had purchased a cabin in the hills of Laurel Ridge when she turned 25 because she loved the scenery and the solitude. She had learned long ago that you could not trust any man. She wouldn’t allow this one to get to her either. That is, until her Great Dane, Sir, needed a vet. Her best friend, Cindy, was married to the local veterinarian, Alan. She bought the cabin to be near her friends. She even went to church with them.

Dr. Lee Grainger was working temporarily with Alan at the clinic. He was considering becoming Alan’s partner. Things were looking up the day Megan brought Sir into the clinic—he had been shot and required immediate attention. He hoped their encounters would allow her to open up to him. She, however, had bad memories with, first her father leaving and then her boyfriend who had failed to tell her he was married. Megan was determined to have nothing to do with Lee.

Lesa Henderson has created two solid, well developed main characters that were constantly at crossroads. Both were searching for that special something which had eluded them so far in their lives. The strength and determination made their encounters both frustrating and, at times, comical. The secondary characters enhanced the storyline. They were of varied personalities and temperaments, but were well written. The underlying clumsiness plaguing Megan kept the book flowing and helped keep the comedic relief throughout.

This inspirational book gave much information about how God leads in individual lives. It does not, however, “preach” or push religion. The book had interwoven spiritual truths which made the book appropriate for every reader, including young adults. I recommend this book to all. This is my introduction to Lesa Henderson, but I plan to look for other of her books. It is not to be missed.
